A recent survey shows what the students of our school like to do in their spare time. From the pie chat, we can see 53% of the students like sports, so doing sports is the most popular activity in our school. The second popular activity for students is surfing the Internet and 36 % of the students have interest in it. Only a few students, about 8 percent of them, take reading as a hobby. And even fewer are fond of playing musical instruments.

In my point of view, our school should have more sports facilities built to satisfy the need of the students. Guidance should be given to students on surfing the Internet and ways must be found to arouse students’ interests in reading and music.

Communication between people is of utmost importance. The importance cannot be stressed too much.

It is said in the Bible that once upon a time, humans communicated with each other in one language. So they attempted to build the Babel Tower to communicate with God, only to find such dream was a castle in the air. In the aftermath, humans were trapped into troubles due to the misunderstandings between them. The jealous God plunged us into such bitterness. Even now, people with different races and religions are dragged into endless wars. People are crying and dying! Such consequences are rooted deeply in the lack of communication. Therefore, lack of communication will lead to perish of human beings.

On the contrary, mutual understanding can be well-established between people if we communicate with each other. That is, the rapport between two countries will be strengthened and the misunderstanding will be reduced if there is a dialogue channel. Likewise, friends can become closer if they argue with each other. No one likes to but it is necessary to be healthy. Arguments between people are a way of communication, by which we can find a solution to the conflictions between us. Consequently, we promote the mutual understanding.

To conclude, through communication, mutual understanding can be promoted and fostered between people with difference races, religions, sex and ideologies. One way is to argue (not totally means quarrels) during the communication to clarify the different views. Lack of communication will surely lead to perish of mankind.

As the people's living standard increases, more and more cars crowd into families. These cars run on the roads, causing traffic jams.

As we can see,the capacity of roads is limited, though they have been expanded for many times. But our cars are on the rise all the time. How can the limited roads hold the unlimited cars?As a result, traffic jams and accidents happen frequently, leading to a great economic loss, injuries, and even deaths. The situation is worse during rush hours.Every day during the rush hour time, thousands of cars in different colours can be seen, one by one lying on the roads, making a special beatutiful city scenery.

It's obvious that traffic jams have become a public disaster.and it seems that something is supposed to be done. In my opinion, first of all, cars should be restricted to go in families.Second, more money should be invested in the construction of roads.Third, drivers are supposed to be educated to follow the traffic rules.

It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn't see some rain soon, we would lose everything. It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle I have ever seen in my life.

I was making lunch for the family when I saw my 6-year old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. I could only see his back. He wasn't walking with his usual carefree1) air2). He was obviously walking with great effort, trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again toward the house. I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever he had been doing was completed. Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that unusual way toward the woods. This activity went on for an hour. Finally I couldn't take it any longer. I crept3) out of the house and followed him.

He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, being very careful not to spill the water he carried. I sneaked4) close as he went into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He might have a much higher purpose, I thought. As I came closer, I saw the most amazing sight. Several large deer stood in front of him. Billy walked right up to them, at the sight of which I almost screamed for him to get away. A huge buck5) was dangerously close. But the buck did not threaten him nor even move as Billy knelt down. And then I saw a tiny baby deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from thirst and heat, lift its head with great effort to lap up6) the water in my boy's hands.

When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him back to a spigot7). Billy opened it and a small trickle8) began to creep out. He knelt there, letting the drip slowly fill up his "cup".

And now I knew what's going on. The week before, he had made the same trouble with our horses, which caused him a lecture from his father about the importance of not wasting water. That should be the reason he didn't ask me for help. It took almost 20 minutes for the drops to fill his hands. When he stood up and turned back, I was there in front of him. His eyes were filled with tears. "I'm not wasting," was all he said. This time, I joined him, with a small pot of water from the kitchen. I let him tend to9) the baby deer alone for it was his job while I just stood on the edge of the woods watching. As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops...and more drops...and more. I looked up at the sky. It was as if God, himself, was weeping with pride. Some will probably say that this was all just a huge coincidence10). I can't argue with that, nor will I. All I can say is that the rain that came that day saved our farm, just like the actions of one little boy saved another.

during summer vacations, i would volunteer at the vet’s, so i’d seen a lot of dogs. minnie was by far the funniest-looking dog i’d ever seen. thin curly hair barely covered her sausage-shaped body. her bugged-out eyes always seemed surprised. and her tail looked like a rat’s tail.

she was brought to the vet to be put to sleep because her owners didn’t want her anymore. i thought minnie had a sweet personality, though. no one should judge her by her looks, i thought. so the vet spayed her and gave her the necessary shots. finally, i advertised minnie in the local paper: funny-looking dog, well behaved, needs loving family.

when a young man called, i warned him that minnie was strange looking. the boy on the phone told me that his grandfather’s siteen-year-old dog had just died. they wanted minnie no matter what. i gave minnie a good bath and fluffed up what was left of her scraggly hair. then we waited for them to arrive.

at last, an old car drove up in front of the vet’s. two kids raced to the door. they scooped minnie into their arms and rushed her out to their grandfather, who was waiting in the car. i hurried behind them to see his reaction to minnie.

inside the car, the grandfather cradled minnie in his arms and stroked her soft hair. she licked his face. her rattail wagged around so quickly that it looked like it might fly off her body. it was love at first lick.

she’s perfect! the old man eclaimed.

i was thankful that minnie had found the good home that she deserved.

that’s when i saw that the grandfather’s eyes were a milky white color - he was blind.
